Ever since I was a kid, my mom has always preached to me that is important to invest in yourself. It’s been many moons since I graduated from college, but I remember my college graduation ceremony like it was yesterday. I was elated and relieved because I had finally obtained the “key” (or so I thought) to unlock my dream job. It was also a sense of relief to me that I no longer had to keep up with the insane schedule of working from 8am to 4:30pm and then attending class from 5:45 pm to 9pm four days a week. I somehow maintained this insane schedule for four looong years. I was finally done!

I paid my dues and now it was time to experience success. However, as I grew older I quickly began to realize that true success involves your ability to continually invest in yourself.

Degrees aren’t magical

When you invest in yourself you realize that your degree will only take you so far in life. You still have to do the work. You will be left behind if you don’t keep up with the new technology and concepts that are happening within your industry.

Your knowledge may not always be appreciated when you invest in yourself

I’ve worked with and for people who had all sorts of fancy degrees. Yet, these folks still somehow manage to be a few fries short of a happy meal.

When people notice that you’re starting to invest in yourself, some will go out of their way to get you to “dumb it down” so you can be on their level. Don’t fall into this trap. Force these folks to elevate themselves so they can be on your level.

Increase your creativity

When you invest in yourself, you will enhance your ability to see a variety of ways to solve an issue. You’re going to feel more confident in your ability to demonstrate the new skills that you learned. Once you feel comfortable with the skills you learned, you should think about teaching a course. If you’re not sure how to create a course or would be interested in receiving course creation assistance, I would be more than happy to assist you.

Diversify your income

Investing in yourself forces you to be more aware of opportunities outside of your 9 to5. When you start gaining new skills, you will realize that you have way more potential than what you may be able to demonstrate on your job. You’re going to end up taking the initiative to look for ways to gain income from doing something that you love.

Start a blog or start a side hustle

Take time to showcase those skills to the rest of the world!  Be sure to create a side hustle focused on providing services or selling products that you’re confident you will be able to deliver. Start a blog to chronicle your journey so you can look back on your progress.

These are my main reasons why I feel that it is important to invest in yourself.

Google Chrome is the only browser that I use because it’s fast, safe, secure and reliable. Apparently, I’m in good company because according to StatCounter Global, 55% of the world uses Google Chrome.

The main reason I use Google Chrome is due to their extensions.  When you download an extension, it allows you to change the functionionality of the browser to create and enhance your browsing experience so it can support your workflow.

The extensions that Google offers from their Chrome extension library enables me to be more productive when I’m blogging. Regardless of what you need, I guarantee there is an extension to satisfy your blogging needs.

I LOVE to learn because I’m a DIY kind of gal. I don’t spend money or refer a product unless I’ve researched it to death and used it myself-LOL I thoroughly enjoy reading articles about digital marketing and technology.

Therefore, if I come across content that is really good, I make sure I share it using Buffer. Buffer’s Chrome extension allows me to immediately share or scheduled content to all of the major social network platforms within seconds. In order to keep my queue constantly filled with evergreen content, interesting articles, questions, etc. I use an automatic scheduling tool called You can learn more about it by clicking here and watching the below video.


Tailwind is incredibly user-friendly and allows you the ability to schedule and reshuffle your pins so they can be shared throughout the day. According to Co-Schedule, peak times for pinning to Pinterest are between 8pm to 11pm.

However, my absolute favorite part about Tailwind are the Tailwind tribes. You’re able to demonstrate your pins not only in the tribe, but then quickly share and repin those pins to group boards to Pinterest from Tailwind. Can we say awesome?!


I like using Ritetag’s Chrome extension because it enables me to evaluate whether I should use a particular hashtag. Based on the color of the hashtag, I’m able to easily see if a hashtag is on the rise or if it’s overused which allows me to determine if it is worth incorporating into my marketing campaign.

Google Analytics Campaign Builder

Google Analytics Campaign URL Builder is an absolute must for bloggers. This Chrome extension allows you to see not just where your traffic is coming from, but it helps you to identify if a specific event, tweet, or blog post is the cause of why you experienced a surge or decline in traffic.


If you have a YouTube channel, then you know how important it is to make sure that your videos are optimized. VidIq helps you to identify keywords that other  YouTubers are using within your niche. If you see that you are missing some keywords, then you can easily add them to your channel, description, etc.


When I’m trying to identify keywords for a blog post or whether I should create a T-shirt for a particular niche, I always make sure to use Moz’s Chrome extension. Moz toolbar is my go to SEO toolbar for keyword research. You’re able to easily identify domain and page authority and inbound links.

Keywords Everywhere

The Keywords Everywhere Chrome extension enables me to easily obtain volume and CPC information for the keywords I wish to use. Once I determine which keywords I want to pursue, I can then easily save my keywords into one list all from the browser.



If you have too many extensions running it can slow down your browsing experience. Extensity places all of your extensions under one tab. This allows you to turn off extensions that would normally run in the background with the click of a button. You’re able to save space on your browser menu and

Google Drive

Whenever I come across interesting posts that I want to revisit at a later time, I save it to my Google Drive folder.

Check Plus for Gmail

You can easily get email notifications and respond to your email all from the Checker Plus for Google  Chrome extension. I like using Gmail this way because it’s a much less distracting way for me to work.

I can see that I have emails, but I have mine set up so I don’t see the actual email notification come through on my desktop. Based on my routine, I check my emails during my Pomodoro breaks.


Grammarly is an absolute must for bloggers. You can read more about more love for Grammarly right here. Regardless of weather whether, the online grammar checker will help you identify and correct mistakes.

Although the primary purpose of this tool is for grammar, I also use this tool to periodically check to see if anyone has plagiarized my content. You can learn more about how I use this tool to protect myself from digital content thieves right here.

If you’re seeking a subtle way to share your blog posts with your friends and colleagues, then you need to take advantage of your email signature. Whenever I’m emailing anyone, I make sure to use the email signature that I created with WiseStamp.

This allows me to share my signature information in addition to my latest blog posts, email newsletter sign up form, etc. You can customize your email signature to share your contact information in a way that highlights your blog.

PlusTrello helps me to stay sane. I like using Trello to help me keep track of the content that I create. This Chrome extension helps me to quickly access and save the research information I find directly to my boards.

I immediately fell in love with this quote because it reaffirms what has been instilled in me since childhood—you are what you think. As a child, we have all had dreams of what we wanted to be when we grew up. However, somewhere along the way many lose that zeal and drive we once had to pursue those dreams and turn them into reality. Why?

As we grow older, we allow outside influences (i.e. family members, circumstances, etc.) to persuade us into believing that perhaps our dreams were not meant to be achieved. This could not be further from the truth! You have the power to change the channel if you are not enjoying the current attraction.


How to reign in your lack of direction

Launching your own business is the best investment that you can ever make. A business allows you to position yourself to enjoy a variety of freedoms that you will never experience working a typical 9 to 5 job.

However, you will never reap any of those benefits if you don’t come up with a routine to help you stay on track. Many businesses fail because they don’t have a plan. Even if they do have a plan, they are unsuccessful in creating and maintaining a routine that will enable them to execute their idea.

If you fail to establish a routine early on in your business journey, you will make one or both of the following mistakes:

When you look back on this year, how many goals did you achieve? If it wasn’t as many as you had hoped for (trust me, I’ve been there) then it’s time to try a new approach. After all, you can’t continue to do the same thing and expect different results.
